Tessa Copland

Auckland writer and editor

My background is in publishing and journalism. Job stints include six years as a magazine editor at Consumer NZ, and three as a subeditor at The Australian Financial Review. Current freelance work includes editing government documents for a general readership.

Writing for the web, I specialise in information-rich sites and plain language. For four years I was a writer/editor at Te Ara — Encyclopedia of New Zealand, which won a Writemark award for best public plain English website. In 2018 the website I rewrote for Watercare was shortlisted for the same award. I have created many websites from scratch, gaining a solid understanding of information design, and what makes for a good online experience.

In all my work, I aim for clarity and simplicity.
